Search Begins for Best in Scottish Law as Scottish Legal Awards Returns for 16th Year

The 16th annual Scottish Legal Awards has launched its 2019 programme, revealing a refreshed line up of categories and a new focus on the growing in-house sector.

Three categories have been created to reflect the rising numbers of in-house practitioners alongside popular team awards for legal firms.  The new categories are designed to recognise in-house teams in both the commercial and public sector alongside an award to recognise individuals, with the introduction of an In-House Lawyer of the Year award.

A further 4 new categories have been introduced as a result of feedback from loyal followers of the programme which each year attracts hundreds of entries and over 500 people at a celebration dinner.

Chairing the judging panel for a fourth year is Shonaig MacPherson CBE.  She will be joined by a panel of 10 representatives covering the breadth of the industry who have now been appointed.

Shonaig MacPherson CBE commented;

“The Scottish Legal Awards continues to be at the forefront of promoting excellence in Scottish law and it is a great honour to chair the judging panel for the fourth year running.  With 7 new categories, the refreshed programme truly covers the length and breadth of the sector and we look forward to receiving and reviewing all the achievements of individuals and teams operating in the law in Scotland.”

Firms are now being invited to consider any of 21 categories including Employment Team of the Year, Private Client Team of the Year and a new award for Legal Technology.  This year also sees the return of a Commercial Property Team award, sponsored by Property Searches Scotland, which will recognise those specialising in advice to the real estate sector in Scotland.

The competition is free to enter and applications should be submitted before 12 noon on Tuesday 20th November.   The judging panel will meet in December to commence the rigorous judging process and decide who will become finalists.  The Scottish Legal Awards takes place at the Glasgow Hilton on Thursday 21st March 2019.
